Following the rapidly escalating developments around COVID-19 and in keeping with the latest directives from city and state officials, the New Museum anticipates being closed until the summer. All of the Museum's programs in April and May have been either cancelled, postponed, or moved online. During this time, we will continue to keep you informed and engaged with the Museum through our "Home Delivery" newsletters (sign up ), social media channels, and with the support of the Museum's ongoing partnerships with Rhizome and NEW INC.

Visitors can participate in free forty-five minute, docent-led public tours of the Museum's current exhibitions. Space is limited to twenty participants. Please meet in the Museum lobby five minutes prior to the tour start time.
Free docent tours are available:

Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday: 12:30 p.m. & 3 p.m.
Self-guided and guided tour groups are limited to 15 people per group. A maximum of 3 groups can be scheduled per hour.

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreted Tours are usually offered on the second Sunday of each month. Architecture tours exploring the Museum’s SANAA-designed building are usually offered the third Sunday of each month. Please check the calendar for more details.
Guided tours are led by Museum guides and occur during Museum hours for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Tours will include an introduction to the history and architecture of the Museum, as well as highlights of the current exhibition. You may schedule a tour for your high school or college class, or for corporate, tourist, or other special groups.
One adult chaperone is required for every group of eight visitors under the age of eighteen.
If your group is larger than 15, more than one guided tour should be reserved. Due to space limitations, guides may be asked to reroute their groups during the tour.

Audio guides are available for iOS and Android devices through the app. A limited number of devices are also available for rent at the Visitor Desk on the Ground Floor; devices are free of charge but a credit card is required to hold your reservation. Guides are available in ten languages, including: English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Italian. Transcripts are also available through the app.
The Museum requires visitors to check backpacks of any size, shopping bags, and all bags larger than eleven by seventeen by six inches (twenty-eight by forty-three by fifteen centimeters). All bags are subject to security inspection before entering the Museum. The New Museum may refuse to accept other items at its discretion and is not responsible for items held at the Coat Check.
Strollers are permitted in the Museum, but stroller access may be limited in certain exhibitions pending space limitations. Please call ahead to confirm.
Photography is permitted in the Museum galleries unless otherwise noted. Videotaping and tripods are prohibited.

Sketching is permitted in the galleries (pencil only, no ink or paint) with sketchbooks no larger than eight and a half by eleven inches (twenty-one and a half by twenty-eight centimeters). Easels, stools, and sitting on the floor is not permitted. If galleries are crowded, guards may ask visitors to stop sketching or writing.
Outside food and drinks are not permitted in the Museum. Food and drinks are permitted only in the New Museum’s café, and may not be carried into the galleries or other areas.
